Few celebrations of the internal combustion engine are quite as magnificent as the Goodwood Revival. However, the show is never quite complete when there aren’t Minis buzzing around big V8 saloons in the touring car race. Every other year, the St Mary’s Trophy runs as a pre-1960 race (and as a pre-1966 event in the alternate years). Still, even though some Minis fit the criteria for both setups, the little front-wheel drive machines have been excluded from racing with the earlier cars as they’re considered Sixties machines.

This year, that rule has been dispatched with, and two new-but-built-to-1950s-specification Minis took part in the race. The Minis have been built by Austin Cars from new bodyshells created by Owens Fabrication and the engines have been prepared by Mini racing specialist, Swiftune.
